The LeftHand Partnership with IBM

LeftHand Networks is a member of the IBM Advanced Business Partner program. The IBM System x3650 server and LeftHand Networks' SAN/iQ® storage software deliver a cost-effective scalable iSCSI SAN solution. The combined solution has passed IBM’s server-proven qualification program and is part of IBM’s mid-market Express Advantage SAN/iQ iSCSI SAN offering. It provides a scalable, highly available, full featured SAN that leverages the ease-of-use and cost benefits of the iSCSI network protocol.

LeftHand's SAN/iQ® software runs on the IBM x3650 to create “storage modules” which are aggregated together to form a storage pool managed from a single intuitive user interface. By utilizing x3650 servers as storage modules within a SAN, LeftHand Networks breaks through the proprietary, special-purpose storage hardware barrier to offer an iSCSI SAN with an enterprise-class feature set, running on an industry-standard hardware platform from a world leader in server platforms.

For a variety of deployments and applications, the combined SAN solution delivers:
  • Enterprise-class performance
  • System uptime
  • Ease of manage through a single pane of glass

Built on high-performance serial-attached SCSI (SAS) disk drives, the combination of x3650s and SAN/iQ softwareis well suited for high I/O and transactional applications, such as Microsoft Exchange, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.

LeftHand physical and virtual SANs support IBM Blade Center and System X products listed within VMware’s ESX server Hardware Compatibility List (HCL). LeftHand SAN/iQ also supports IBM’s AIX iSCSI initiator.
