Management Team

Bill Chambers, Founder and President/CEO
Bill Chambers has more than 20 years experience in high technology companies, specializing in new product introductions and market creation and development. During his career, Mr. Chambers has held key management positions in a number of high technology start-ups and Fortune 500 companies. As Founder, President, and CEO of LeftHand Networks, Mr. Chambers has led the company through successful venture financings, development of the storage industry's first IP-based Storage Area Network (IP SAN) solution, successful and active partnerships with Fortune 100 and emerging growth companies, and widespread acknowledgement of the company as the industry leader in the rapidly growing IP SAN market.

Mark Avery, VP of Enterprise Sales
Mark brings over 20 years of technology sales and management experience to LeftHand Networks. He started his career in the Disaster Recovery industry and co-founded Recovery Management, Inc. RMI was a pioneer in the business continuity software marketplace and its flagship product was a leader in the field. After selling his company to Comdisco, Mark served in a number of management roles including Senior Vice President and General Manager of Comdisco Storage Services. He was a pre-launch member of the Centera division of EMC where he worked in Sales, Channel Sales, Global Account Sales, Marketing and Product Management. Mark graduated from Colby College, Waterville, Maine with a BA in Mathematics and Business Administration.

David Bangs, VP of Sales
David serves as LeftHand Network's Vice President of Sales. David comes with extensive sales experience in the storage market. He joined Quantum Corporation, a leading provider of data protection and network storage systems, in 1994, and held a series of roles with increasing levels of responsibility. Most recently, Mr. Bangs served as Vice President of Americas Sales, building and leading an enterprise organization that secured wins with numerous Fortune 50 corporations. David has a BA in Business and International Marketing (with Honors) from South Bank University, London, England.

Raju Bopardikar, Chief Technology Officer
Raju Bopardikar has a strong background in distributed systems and virtualization software, with significant expertise in software development. As Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Raju is advancing LeftHand’s technology and contributing to the future vision, positioning and evolution of LeftHand’s successful portfolio of SAN solutions. A successful technologist and innovator, the products and solutions Raju developed are serving the needs of many of the world's leading supercomputing, entertainment and high performance networking organizations. For several years, Raju served as a consultant for IBM, Thinking Machines and AT&T Bell Labs where he holds many patents and developed technologies involving high speed networking, distributed file systems and clustering solutions. A successful entrepreneur, he also founded a number of companies, including Stone+Wire/Discreet Logic, Cereva Networks and TrueNorth Networks. Raju holds a Bachelor of Arts in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Columbia University.

Karl Chen, VP of Business Development & Alliances
Karl has responsibility for LeftHand's business development, OEM and alliance partnership activities. He has more than 20 years of marketing and sales experience in distributed systems, enterprise software, and storage data management. Karl joined LeftHand Networks in 2003 from BMC Software where he was Vice President of Marketing. He has also held executive management positions at Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Compaq, and contributed to market leadership positions in each of those companies. Karl holds a MBA degree from Bentley College and a BSBA degree from Babson College.

Larry Cormier, VP of Marketing
Larry Cormier brings more than 20 years of experience in technology marketing and executive leadership to his role as LeftHand Networks' Vice President of Marketing. As Vice President of Marketing, Larry is instrumental in positioning and advancing the company's highly available, open iSCSI SAN solutions and virtualization technologies. He manages all external communications and is responsible for supporting the company's expanding ecosystem of industry partners. Prior to joining LeftHand Networks, Larry served on LeftHand's Executive Advisory Board, and most recently served as Senior Vice President and Business Development at Scentric and Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at CommVault Systems. Larry is actively involved in helping to grow the data and storage management industry as a member of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) and has served two terms as a member of the SNIA Board of Directors. He is a frequent speaker and writer on industry topics. He holds a Bachelors of Science in Journalism and Computer Science from the University of Texas.

Dr. Mark Hayden, Chief Software Officer
As Chief Software Officer, Mark is responsible for the design and direction of LeftHand Networks' virtualization and distributed systems software technologies. Mark founded North Fork Networks, a provider of next-generation storage management software. North Fork was acquired by LeftHand in 2002 and its SAN/iQ technology now provides the foundation of LeftHand's software. Mark earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Cornell's Distributed Systems Research Group. After his graduate work, he served as a scientist at the Digital Systems Research Center (DEC SRC). Mark's area of expertise is distributed systems and fault-tolerant computing technologies. He has published numerous articles and patents in the area.

John Hillyard, Chief Financial Officer
As Chief Financial Officer, John provides direction for the company’s strategic planning, finance, human resources and information systems. He joined LeftHand Networks with over 25 years as a senior technology finance and operations executive, bringing significant domestic and international experience at both public and private companies. Prior to joining LeftHand Networks, John was EVP, Finance and Operations and Chief Financial Officer for FrontRange Solutions; and Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for eFunds Corporation.

Randy Hollis, VP of Engineering and Operations
Randy is responsible for LeftHand Networks' engineering, supply chain, quality, customer service, and product test. He has over 30 years of experience in engineering, high-volume factory management, supply chain management, and quality. Prior to joining LeftHand Networks, Randy was the Vice President of Global Operations for Advanced Digital Information Corporation (ADIC) and for Quantum Corporation. Randy also has extensive offshore experience having been the General Manager for high volume factories and engineering in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. He also held operations and engineering positions at StorageTek and Maxtor Corporation. He studied Mathematics and Metallurgical Engineering at South Dakota School of Mines and has been involved with both the Malaysia and Singapore Governments' Economic Development Boards and the US Council on (Mfg) Competitiveness.

John Spiers, Founder
As a founder and visionary for LeftHand Networks, John sets the company's technology direction and oversees its advanced technology development. He has over 20 years of experience architecting, developing and implementing software & hardware technology solutions in the Storage Industry. He has held multiple engineering development, IT and management positions, starting with the first Winchester Disk Drive maker MiniScribe Corporation. Prior to founding LeftHand Networks, John was Director of Engineering at Maxtor Corporation, with responsibility for New Product Introduction for the Network Systems Group, Disk Drive Test Engineering and world-wide Factory Information Systems. John holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, Colorado.
