Virtual SAN Appliance (VSA) for VMware

Virtualization has created new problems for data storage. More applications running on a single virtual server means that more applications go down if that server fails. VMware has developed virtual machine mobility features like VMware HA, VMotion, and DRS to address these new issues. To take advantage of those features, you need storage: either external storage, which can be expensive and hard to manage, or virtual storage, the affordable, highly available kind that LeftHand’s Virtual SAN Appliance (VSA™) provides.

Based on award-winning SAN/iQ® software, LeftHand’s VSA is a VMware Certified Virtual Appliance and provides complete SAN management functionality through the VMware ESX Server. By virtualizing the internal disk capacity of VMware ESX Server and clustering the storage across multiple server hosts, LeftHand’s VSA eliminates the need for external shared storage necessary to implement the advanced features of VMware Infrastructure. Small to medium businesses and remote office customers can lower their IT infrastructure costs and enable higher levels of protection for business critical systems without the purchase of additional hardware.

LeftHand VSAs deployed at remote sites are managed as virtual storage nodes in the LeftHand Centralized Management Console, along with the rest of your LeftHand SAN.

LeftHand’s VSA is the first virtual storage appliance to be certified and listed in the SAN Compatibility Guide for VMware ESX Server. Together with VMware ESX Server, LeftHand’s VSA gives customers who have remote and branch offices the ability to implement an affordable VMware virtualization environment that provides high availability to both applications and storage.
